Legends & Lattes (EBook, 2022, Cryptid Press) 5 stars

Wierd but good...

4 stars

This novel is peculiar in many ways. A book about the introduction of coffee and cookies to a community, how can that be bad? Although I found the novel interesting, the novel's wrap-up and epilogue were less than 'rewarding' (helpful). The ending made the book seem as though the author thought the story required shoring up before closure. I may give other novels by this author a try. I hope any follow-ons are a bit more robustly edited.

A magnificent read

5 stars

This is an amazing book, filled with wholesome object lessons, interesting characters and wonderful themes. My grandson (now 10) and I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. To my mind, this book is much deeper, more thought-provoking and emotionally rich than the Ramona & Henry series.

A reasonably entertaining read

3 stars

Although I am not a huge fan of reading plays, this Oscar Wilde play is pretty entertaining. There is a fair amount of wit and moral discussion in this work, I assume largely relevant to late 18900s England. It certainly is problematic by today's standards.

FWIW. The ebook version I obtained from Standard eBooks was problematic, chapter transitions did not function correctly.

Not bad... it simply tries too hard

3 stars

This novel tries to be funny, witty, mysterious, exciting, and engaging. It almost succeeds (in most of those). The humor generally falls flat, the excitement (isn't) and the characters are not truly relatable. This is a fine read, if you don't have something better. I'll be moving on to other authors, myself.

Playing It Safe (2023, St. Martin's Press) 4 stars

Maybe a little more risk

4 stars

This is a very entertaining mystery. Our heroine and her foil do not disappoint, although a bit more 'risk' may have made this a 5 star rating. There are not too many surprises, twists or turns, just enough to keep things moving and interesting. This is a fine addition to the series.

Death on the Green (2020, Kensington Publishing Corporation) 3 stars

Not bad... pretty good

3 stars

This is a pretty good mystery. The end is a bit disjointed (ergo the three star rating). I'll try another novel in the series to see if things improve. The heroine could be very good (thus far she is just okay). Right now I'd say this novel is in the cozy mystery wanna-be category. It's not quite cozy.

The Prime Minister's Secret Agent (Maggie Hope, #4) 4 stars

Another Entertaining Volume in the Seires

4 stars

This installment is an interesting re-boot of the series. I thought for a while that the story was stuck but ended being quite surprised as four threads of the story line were rejuvenated. Truly read this as the 4th volume. It will make very little sense otherwise. In it's place this is an entertaining and hopeful re-invigoration of the series.

My review...

2 stars

There is no danger of this ever becoming a favorite of mine. The basic travelogue format of the novel, does not resolve itself (there are several missing chapters according to Poe). The early sections of the tale lead us to a rather brutal, senseless mutiny, and cannibalism. The final section becomes a travelogue again ending in yet more senseless violence. Yep, this is not my cup of tea.
