Let the Right One In (Swedish: Låt den rätte komma in) is a 2004 vampire novel by Swedish writer John Ajvide Lindqvist. The story centers on the relationship between a 12-year-old boy, Oskar, and a centuries-old vampire child, Eli. It takes place in Blackeberg, a working-class suburb of Stockholm, in the early 1980s. I watched the movie before reading the book, and I sorta wish I hadn't. I definitely would have enjoyed it a lot more if I had read it before seeing the movie, but despite that, it was still an amazing read. If you've already seen the movie, don't let that stop you from giving this a read. There are entire story lines that the movie barely even begins to touch on.

As an American reading the English-language version of the novel, I feel like there were probably a few Swedish cultural/historical references that I didn't entirely pick up on, but again, that's hardly enough to ruin a story for me.

Definitely recommend this to anybody who is looking for a gory, dark read.

Even gorier than the movie. A+
